Drummer Tommy Lee and bassist Nikki Sixx first joined forces in 1981. They found guitarist Mick Mars in a classified ad, and later combined with vocalist Vince Neil to form Motley Crue. Neil would help the ban reach superstar status in the late eighties with hit singles like the 1985 classic "Smokin' in the Boys Room," the rock ballad "Home Sweet Home" and the fun "Girls, Girls, Girls." Neil briefly left the band for a couple of years before returning to help produce Motley Crue's most successful album, "Dr. Feelgood."
Egos clashed and the band fell off the radar after the release of “Decade of Decadence,” a compilation album featuring the Crue’s greatest hits. Neil left the band and pursued a solo career. Meanwhile, Lee, Sixx and Mars picked out new frontman John Corabi and released a self-titled album in 1994. Motley Crue the album received mild success. It became clear, that the Crue needed Neill back. It was time to start over.
In 1997, Neil and Lee put their egos aside and returned to Motley Crue. They have been touring with the original line-up ever since.
